Juan Gabriel Rojas, violin
From the Classical and Baroque traditions to Latin-American, contemporary and popular genres, violinist Juan Gabriel Rojas is a passionate and enthusiastic performer and educator who brings warmth and originality to every performance.
Juan Gabriel has performed solo and chamber music in Europe and South America. He has appeared as a soloist in Venezuela, Colombia, Portugal, and Belgium. In addition to traditional venues, Juan Gabriel performs in art galleries, schools, conference centres, cafes, and house concerts to make live classical music available to a broader audience.
Active as a collaborative artist, he has performed with the violinists Mikhaïl Bezverkhny, the Spirale Piano Trio, the singer Gidon Saks, and conductors Dirk Brossé, Michel Tilkin, and Rodolfo Saglimbeni. Dedicated to exploring new music, Juan Gabriel has performed the premiere of Beyond the Notes, a suite for violin solo by the Turkish composer Firdevs Eke, and the Belgian premiere of the Venezuelan composer Paul Desenne’s Solo Sonata and Venezuelan Suite.
Born in Venezuela, Juan Gabriel began his musical studies in El Sistema - the Venezuelan music program for children and youth orchestras. He earned his Master's Advanced Studies in Performance from the Conservatoire of Ghent (Belgium) studying with Prof. Mikhaïl Bezverkhny and Roberto Valdés. Juan's strong belief that personal, intellectual, spiritual, and social development can be achieved through music is what makes him so engaged with the musical education of children and young people, leading to collaborations with music education programs from Europe and South America. Currently, he is the musical director of Sistema in Norwich.
